This year, The Heritage Awards goes virtual

American Heritage Awards 2020

Please join us on July 22, 2020 for the American Heritage Awards. We are taking our annual celebration virtual and making it free to all AILA members. The online, live event will include our key features—the Celebrate America fifth grade creative writing contest winner, entertainment, and inspiring honorees.

Heritage Immigration Forum

In addition to the July 22 event, we will be hosting an online Heritage of Immigration Forum from July 1 to July 31. This four-week virtual forum is a participatory website where our entire audience network can visit and re-visit to virtually engage with the Council through discussions that ignite conversation, presentations that spread ideas, and platforms for attendees to tell their stories.

Especially in these trying times, we are looking forward to coming together as a community to thank you for your partnership and to celebrate the amazing work that continues despite the challenges. Mark your calendars and prepare for a new experience.

FAQ

Most frequent questions and answers

The American Immigration Council (the Council) works to strengthen America by shaping how America thinks about and acts towards immigrants and immigration and by working toward a more fair and just immigration system that opens its doors to those in need of protection and unleashes the energy and skills that immigrants bring.
We have a proud history as a nation of immigrants, and yet the United States has struggled to embrace newly arrived immigrants. As a result, our immigration system and the way we treat immigrants does not live up to our diverse American ideals, values, and needs.

The Council brings together problem solvers to advance positive public attitudes and create a more welcoming America—one that provides a fair process for immigrants and adopts immigration laws and policies that take into account the needs of the United States.

The American Immigration Council’s American Heritage Awards (AHA) is an annual event usually held in conjunction with the American Immigration Lawyers Association’s (AILA) Annual Conference. This year, due to COVID-19 concerns for everyone’s safety, we are creating a virtual American Heritage Awards centered within our Heritage of Immigration Forum.

The Awards ceremony is a 60 minute live-stream event celebrating the remarkable accomplishments of immigrants and their champions from around the country. This will still be the same inspiring and thought-provoking awards ceremony, but now we can go further by opening this free evening of celebration to a 15,000-lawyer member community.

There will be Zoom cocktail receptions, a virtual red carpet, and exciting entertainment. You will hear from thought leaders in the community, inspiring honorees, and our 5th Grade creative writing winner.

The virtual American Heritage Awards will take place Thursday, July 22nd 2020 at 8:00 p.m. EST via live stream. Attendance is free for all AILA Members, but you must register in advance to attend using the link sent to you via email. For registration inquiries, please contact Laura Jennings at  [email protected]. Additional details and access will be sent out to all registrants prior to the event.

The American Heritage Awards will be the centerpiece of a larger-scale, interactive Heritage of American Immigration Forum from July 1 to July 31. Throughout the four weeks, there will be opportunities to virtually engage with the Council through discussions, presentations, and platforms that tell your story. Stay tuned for more information about the launch of this exciting and interactive event!

The American Heritage Awards will be broadcast live on this website at Thursday, July 22nd at 8:00 PM EST. Instructions will also be emailed to you prior to the event.

You can donate to AIC here or throughout the program with our text-to-donate code, provided to you via email and during the broadcast.
