American Heritage Awards Forum

Welcome to the American Heritage Awards Forum at the American Immigration Council. This website serves as a companion to our annual awards where we celebrate immigration achievements and raise funds to achieve the work of the Council. We invite you to explore and hear from our community about the current immigration debate and the Council’s role in advancing a fair and just immigration system. We also welcome you to share your own stories and perspectives about immigration.

Our History

We have a proud – and complicated – history as a nation of immigrants. Our immigration system and the way it treats immigrants often fails to live up to our highest values and ideals. Not only have we failed, in many cases, to afford basic due process rights, but in countless ways our outdated immigration laws and policies do not respect the family unit, discourage innovation, and turn away those in need of protection. Our current immigration laws do not support American competitiveness, prosperity, and do not live up to our values.
